Winter in Ontario
If winter gives you "Cabin Fever" Ontario is the place to be.
Whether you want to be outside taking part in winter activities or inside beside a fireplace enjoying winter from a window, Ontario offers hotels (many with special winter packages), spas, resorts or cabins.
Winter activities can consist of skiing, snowmobiling, skating on the many frozen lakes and ponds, ice fishing, cross-country skiing, snow-shoeing or merely walking along beautiful wintery conservation trails. For snow fun see Snow.
There are many events in the larger cities and winter or ice festivals in smaller towns. These can range from the large, many day "Winterlude" in and around the Rideau Canal in Ottawa to the Niagara "Ice Wine Festival".
Most of the winter you can find snow north of Toronto. Often South-Western Ontario will receive a lot of snow off Lake Huron. Check out the weather forecast for 2011 in the Old Farmer's Almanac.
Winter provides a wonderful view of the ice on Niagara Falls. Spend a few days in one of the many Niagara hotels that overlook the Falls, enjoy a gourmet meal, a little time in the casinos and a few hours seeing the many attractions. For more information see Niagara.
